Easy As ABC…

One of the many things I talk to groups about is “servant leadership” and the importance of being involved – whether it’s in your local community or somewhere around the globe.  I talk about the importance of “giving back” to others. Often people ask me, “but how can I make a difference? I’m just one person…” And I always say, “It’s as easy as ABC!”

If you want to make a difference in the life of just one person or thousands, the process really is the same. Here’s what I suggest.

A-be AUTHENTIC: We all know reality tv isn’t real. But if you want to know true reality, be real to others. When you ask someone, “How are you today?” – do you wait for them to answer or just keep walking? Did you “check out” before they even had a chance to answer? Don’t make promises you can’t keep. I meet a lot of people and I’ve learned a lot of lessons in my life – even at this YOUNG age –  but one of the best might be that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

B-be BETTER than yesterday: Never stop learning and improving. There are lots of different ways to learn – by asking questions, reading, studying, even watching YouTube videos from motivational speakers you respect! I don’t always have a lot of time to commit to studying and learning, so I have to take advantage of every small chunk of time I can carve out.  You’d probably be surprised how motivated you can be after listening to Brendon Burchard whmeaning of life.jpgile you drive across town! (I have a few videos on MY YouTube channel you could check out too!)

C-be COURAGEOUS: I seriously thought about telling you to be committed, but I was afraid you might take that literally and come after me with a straight jacket. Here’s the thing…people always say you should “think outside the box.” But I ask you, “why even HAVE a box??” The possibilities are endless if you dare to dream and dream BIG! And then do whatever it takes to accomplish your dreams. So just have the courage to start and you never know how far you’ll go.

Now I could probably go on with the entire alphabet, but let’s be honest…I don’t have a word for X or Y or Z!  And who wants to remember 26 words of encouragement when you could just remember three?
